On October 2006 the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety order came into force. This order revoked the Fire Certification system and brought together over 70 different pieces of legislation relating to Fire Safety.
The Changes are quite dramatic and affects all businesses.
The responsible person must comply with the Fire Safety Reform order or face enforcement by the Enforcing Authority through the actions of an Inspector. Failing to comply may lead to a fine or up to two years imprisonment.

With the introduction of the Housing Health and Safety rating system in England and wales on 6th April 2006 it is advisable to all Landlords/Owner occupiers of HMO's ( Homes of multiple occupancy) to have a Risk assessment carried out of their property.
The HHSRS covers 29 risk categories which are divided into 4 groups,
physiological, psychological, protection against infection and protection against accidents. Fire Safety in HMO's falls into the latter grouping.
